Death Angel Comic Book Unveiled0 COMMENTS
Author: Anthony :: Posted: Wed May 21, 2008 1:11 am

Artist Joshua Emerick, who has previously worked with The Beatles, CKY, Social Distortion and Sonic Youth, has created a Death Angel themed comic book in collaboration with the bands members. Other possible contributors include Rob Zombie and comedian Brian Posehn, who most recently put out a stand up comedy/metal record via Relapse Records. The following is an excerpt from an interview conducted with the renowned comic and toy oriented magazine, Wizard:

Wizard: So how much can you tell me about the Death Angel project?

Emerick: The Death Angel project started from when I did the CKY comic book. And what happened was that Deron Miller, who was the lead singer for CKY, also had a death metal band and the record label he's working through let me know that Death Angel was doing a comic book. And I was like, ‘Yeah! I'll do it!’ cause a lot of my work to date has been a lot of rock pieces. I've done a lot of artwork for the Beatles' magazines, for Sonic Youth, Social Distortion, I did CKY's tour shirts and their comic books.

Wizard: In the Death Angel comic, how collaborative was it? How many writers did you have working with you?

Emerick: I brought in the writer that I grew up with. We used to make comics when we were kids and we stayed close friends and he did the CKY book for me. We did a couple things for Cartoon Network for proposals for shows. I kept him on with me when I got a new writer who came in. He's a stand up comedian and he's helping on the book as well. And Dennis Pepa, the bass player [of Death Angel], he's actually the one I've been talking to the most, though. He's the one we're forming the comic book company with.

Wizard: You mentioned bringing in a comedian. Is the comic going to be like a "Metalocalypse" thing where you're making fun of metal while also celebrating it?

Emerick: Pretty much, yeah. The first series has a lot to do with how music is being taken over by corporate music offices and everything. But when it comes to the one-liners and punch lines, that's where the comedian comes in and adds his flavor to it.

Wizard: So it's a struggle with the corporatization of rock and roll?

Emerick: Yeah, what happens is since they're called Death Angel, we have the Angel of Death—the Grim Reaper—come in and he knocks them all off. And somehow they go to an alternate universe. It's kind of like "Akira," based in the future where everything's a mess: a post-apocalyptic setting. And there's the main villain, Ludwig, and ironically he's death. He's the one controlling this thing called the "Sonic Beatdown," that's one of Death Angel’s new singles that they released. I guess it's the B note that he's controlling and using to take control of the world pretty much. And Death Angel is going to come in and try to make things better and help people out.

Wizard: Help people out by rocking?

Emerick: [Laughs] Pretty much, yeah! [Laughs] They're pretty much going to get together as a team and they're gonna make the "Sonic Beatdown" instrument turn against the leader and try to reverse everything and try to bring harmony back to the world. There's all kinds of mech robots, there's machines that are half robot, half human, half animal.

Wizard: That sounds pretty awesome!

Emerick: Yeah, the writers did a really good job on this one. I'm really happy with it and I'm halfway done with the book now with penciling and inking. And I'm just really happy with it now.”

Death Angel are currently making waves with their first tour US tour in first years, the “In Thrash We Trust” tour with God Forbid, Soilent Green, Arsis and Light This City.

Anata Issues Recording Update0 COMMENTS
Author: Anthony :: Posted: Wed May 21, 2008 12:50 am

Swedish death metal masters Anata have posted an update from the studio on the recording process of their upcoming new album.

Anata drummer Conny Pettersson gives the final update regarding the recording of the drums in his studio diary:

"This was the final recording day. We started by changing the snare head and Jens tuned all the drums into perfection as every other day. I had two tracks left to do. I started with "Greed Conquers All", the first track written for this album. It's a fast killer track and also one of my favourites. It has a small part sometime after its first guitar solo, where the drums and guitars go a little crazy. We did several takes for this part and both Fredrik and I thought it sounded as it should.

Jens still wanted me to play more and more and Fredrik said: "I think Conny have done 5 or 6 perfect takes now in a row, I can't hear what is wrong." But Jens is not satisfied with everything only being in time; he also wants the drums to sound right in a way we couldn't understand. Fredrik went nervous and walked out of the control room. And I struggled some more and suddenly Jens was happy. We have always believed that we were the worst perfectionists possible, and people would tell us; "No one will hear the difference anyway." But now it was the other way around."

Following on from 2006's 'The Conductor's Departure', Anata's as-yet-untitled fifth full-length album is being recorded in two locations, with the drums being recorded at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Paradise Lost) in Orebro, Sweden, while the guitars, bass and vocals will all be recorded by the band themselves with their own equipment.

Anata have also revealed a tentative track listing for the upcoming album, in no particular order:

Lanterns Shine Black
Acts Of God

The Darkest Of Souls
The Part Of Me That Had To Die
A Welcome Change Of Pain
Machinery
Exploited And Left To Die
Greed Conquers All

From A Second Story Window Posts New Track Online0 COMMENTS
Author: Anthony :: Posted: Wed May 21, 2008 12:22 am

From a Second Story Window has unveiled "Self-Admitted" as the second track off its upcoming, May 27 release, 'Conversations'. "Self-Admitted" can be heard on the Black Market Activities MySpace page.

The first track that was released last month, "Leaving the Earth", is posted on the From a Second Story Window MySpace.

All of the ten tracks on 'Conversations' portray ordinary people dealing with relatable circumstances in today’s world. Vocalist Will Jackson combines these circumstances with his perceived future of the human existence: “The truest want of this record is to address—through these characters and a creatively controlled-chaos of musical sound—the many issues each of us face on a daily basis: war, disease, poverty, greed, the posterity of the human species, etc,”.

'Conversations' will be available everywhere on May 27th!

Austrian Death Machine Track List, Release Date Announced0 COMMENTS
Author: Anthony :: Posted: Wed May 21, 2008 12:00 am

When Tim Lambesis wasn’t busy writing and touring with As I Lay Dying he spent his few spare moments creating music for his new side project, Austrian Death Machine.

Austrian Death Machine is fronted by "Ahhnold" and themed entirely on his movies. Just check out the track listing and artwork (Above) to get a taste of what’s to come on Austrian Death Machine’s Metal Blade debut, 'Total Brutal', available everywhere July 22nd.

'Total Brutal' track listing:
1. Hello California
2. Get to the Choppa
3. Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers
4. All of the Songs Sound the Same
5. I am a Cybernetic Organism, Living Tissue Over (Metal) Endoskeleton
6. Come With Me if You Want to Live
7. What it's like to be a Singer at Band Practice
8. Who is Your Daddy, and What Does He Do?
9. You Have Just Been Erased
10. Broo-Tall Song Idea
11. Here is Subzero, Now Plain Zero
12. So Far, So Good, So Let's Talk About It
13. Screw You (Benny)
14. Why?
15. If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It
16. It's Not A Tumor
17. Not So Hidden Track

Tim Lambesis had the following to say about the album: "Ahhnold is the embodiment of everything brutal and stereotypically metal, so he is the perfect front-man for each of these songs that I wrote in less than an hour. If you think that shows any sort of disrespect or makes me less of a fan than you are, then I'd like to hear the entire CD you wrote in tribute to the governator. Plus, let's be honest, it came out a lot better than a lot of bands who are totally serious and practice all the time. Everything I put into my other band (As I Lay Dying) is heartfelt and full of passion. This, on the other hand, is an outlet of pure testosterone and stupidity. I hope you're ready... chances are you already know the words to every chorus, so sing along!

Behemoth Completes 'The Apostasy' Touring Cycle0 COMMENTS
Author: Anthony :: Posted: Tue May 20, 2008 11:40 pm

Poland’s most blasphemous and entertaining export, Behemoth, have completed their year-long worldwide campaign in support of 'The Apostasy', which is the group’s most successful offering yet. Behemoth emerged from 2007 as the definitive band within the extreme metal genre. The group became Ozzfest’s most talked about act and followed that up with the massive Radio Rebellion Tour, co-headlining alongside Job For A Cowboy that further solidified their status as one of the genre’s most explosive, premiere live acts. The most recent trek as part of “The Invaluable Darkness Tour Part 2” as direct support to Dimmu Borgir marked the band’s third and final stateside run for this album cycle.

Behemoth frontman AdamNergalDarski recently conducted a very candid podcast interview with MTV’s Headbangers Ball Blog and during the interview they talked about the recent tour with Dimmu Borgir, the new studio EP and live album, the possibility of a live DVD, keeping partying under control and the trouble Nergal caused onstage in Poland by tearing up a Bible. Check it out at this location

Nergal (vocals, guitars) states: “We just completed our third and final run in North America for this record. We toured like hell after 'Demigod' and we’ve also been touring like crazy to support 'The Apostasy', but it feels like it’s time to slow down and live our lives a little bit. So it’s about time we stay home for awhile, get inspired and write another monstrous record.”

Never one known to rest on their laurels, the Polish killing machine Behemoth raised the bar once again with their bombastic new video “At The Left Hand Ov God.” The clip was produced by acclaimed Polish director Dariusz Szermanowicz and Group 13. Check it out below.

If you head over to Apple Trailers you can check out the HD version for GARTH JENNINGS (HITCHHIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY) new film SON OF RAMBOW, a hilariously fresh and visually inventive take on friendship, family, film heroes and the death-defying adventures of growing up in the video age. It all begins in 1980s Britain, when young Will Proudfoot, raised in isolation among The Brethren, a puritanical religious sect in which music and TV are strictly forbidden, encounters something beyond his wildest fantasies: a pirated copy of RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD. His virgin viewing of the iconic thriller blows his mind – and rapidly expanding imagination – wide open. Now, Will sets out to join forces with the seemingly diabolical school bully, Lee Carter, to make their own action epic, devising wildly creative, on-the-fly stunts, not to mention equally elaborate schemes for creating a movie of total commitment and non-stop thrills while hiding out from The Brethren. But when school popularity finally descends on Will and Lee in the form of, oui, the super-cool French exchange student, Didier Revol, their remarkable new friendship and precious film are pushed, quite literally, to the breaking point …

SON OF RAMBOW invades theaters May 2nd!
