Interview by: Anthony
Loudside.com: So How does it feel to be back on Ozzfest as a Second Stage Headliner?
Slo: It's awesome. It's good to see that we've taken a step up, and things are getting
better and progressing. It's great....I have no complaints.
Loudside.com: Do you guys have tour plans lined up after Ozzfest?
Slo: We're gonna do a Headlining tour in the U.S. After that we're gonna try and hit Japan, Australia, and Europe one more time. And then we're gonna come back to the U.S. in the winter and do another Headlining tour.
Loudside.com: Regarding the new album 'III: In The Eyes Of Fire',what direction has the band taken lyrically?
Slo: In the past, alot of the songs have been more about political ideas, whereas the new album is more based on personal battles that we go through on a day to day basis. The lyrics have been written so that anybody can take any meaning they want for themselves, as opposed us saying "Here you go, this is what it means." It's basically open to individual interpretation.
Loudside.com: Stylistically, is it similar to the last album?
Slo: It's heavier musically. It's definitely thrashier and alot faster than the last album.
It's also alot more mature than the last album musically. I think this ones alot better and I hope the fans feel the same.
Loudside.com: What's gonna be included in the Limited Edition of the new album?
Slo: I think that it's gonna be a digi-pack version with a DVD of roadfootage and stuff like that. I could be wrong, but I think that's what's going to be included. We had cameras everywhere, filming eachother being dumb [laughs]. Basically alot of backstage antics and whatnot.
Loudside.com: When is the video for the new song "Giles" being released?
Slo: Within the next few weeks I believe. I can't say for sure. I have very little to do
with that.(laughs)
Loudside.com: What was it like working with Terry Date?
Slo: Working with Terry was awesome. Definitely a great experience. It definitely helped this album progress and become what it is. He's more of a producer that works with organic tones, and things of that nature. So we got away from the Adam D. approach, where there's alot of triggers and things like that. This album just sounds more like a Live situation.
Loudside.com: So it basically sounds more natural?
Slo: Yeah, it's not so perfect. It definitely has "human error" characteristics to it. It's
a very characteristic album for us, and it's good that we were able to finally catch that
feeling on a record.
Loudside.com: So there are noticeable flaws on it?
Slo: It's not necessarily 'flaws', but it is because it's human, ya know. It's not being
thrown through a computer, or pro tools or anything like that. So it has that element
where we're actually playing that shit. It's a real album. Not some fabricated metal album.(laughs)
Loudside.com: Right on man...well that's about all I've got for you. Thanks for taking the time...
Slo: Cool man..Not a problem. Thanks for the support.
