Hot on the heels of their blistering US headlining tour Damnation Vacation with Unearth and Lazarus AD; thrash gods Testament now hit Europe hard on a huge summer run throughout Europe, where they'll be playing the Metalcamp, Wacken Open Air, and the Brutal Assault festivals. The tour kicks off in Holland on July 2 and concludes August 8 in Belgium. The band has been touring non-stop in support of their award-winning album, Golden God Album of the Year award, “The Formation of Damnation”, including this year's "Priest Feast" tour in Europe with Judas Priest earlier this year and a phenomenal run on the "Metal Masters" tour last summer with Heaven and Hell and Motorhead.
Upon their return in August, the band will be making a stop in NYC for a special taping of SIRIUS XM's Artist Confidential series. Artist Confidential features the most important and timeless artists in music sitting down for candid interviews, intimate conversations with fans and live performances. Artists who have appeared in the SIRIUS XM series include Paul McCartney,, Santana, Coldplay, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins, Gloria Estefan, Don Henley, Bonnie Raitt, Def Leppard, Rush, Smashing Pumpkins, Pink, James Taylor, Sting, Bob Weir and over 100 others. The show is scheduled to air later this year on SIRIUS XM's Liquid Metal, SIRIUS channel 27 and XM channel 42.

Germany’s heaviest export, Caliban, is gearing up to release their 8th full-length album on August 25th, 2009 – “Say Hello to Tragedy”. Produced by Benny Richter, co-produced by guitarist Marc Goertz and mixed by Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam D, “Say Hello to Tragedy” marks some of Caliban’s most accomplished and mature work to date. This album impressively unites an aggressive, ferocious metal punch with emotive melodies and choruses that Caliban has come to be known for.
Throughout the course of “Say Hello to Tragedy”, you’ll find equal parts vicious thrashing, blasting beats, and crushing breakdowns as well as both rough and clean vocals resulting in a record rich in contrast and diversity. Songs like the murderous opener “24 Years”, “Caliban’s Revenge” or “No One Is Safe” prove that Caliban has developed into an unrivalled modern metal beast captivating the listener with raging heaviness and catchy melodies. The concept of “Say Hello to Tragedy” comes from questioning why tragedies happen nowadays that could have been prevented. Guitarist Marc Goertz commented, “If people would just open their eyes and at least care a bit about their neighbours, relatives and the world in general, a lot of this adversity could be avoided. Some of our new songs are entirely fictional, whereas other ones refer to real life dramas like the Fritzl case.”
Formed in 1997, Caliban is one of the few German bands who managed to build up an international status in recent years. In North America they’ve toured with labelmates God Forbid, The Red Chord, I Killed The Prom Queen and many more and also stopped at North American Festivals such as Hellfest (Syracuse) and New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. Caliban has also toured Japan with Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall, played the Beast Feast as well as visited Indonesia, Malaysia and last, but not least Australia as part of the Gigantour with Megadeth, Soulfly and Arch Enemy. Apart from several headline runs, they were also part of numerous European tours with bands such as In Flames and Devil Driver, Machine Head and Kreator. Caliban has also appeared on countless European festivals such as With Full Force Festival (D), Graspop Metal Meeting (B), Summerbreeze (D), Rock am Ring/Rock im Park (D), Wacken Open Air (D) as well as the prestigious Nova Rock (A) and Download Festival (UK). Recently, the band supported Machine Head and their acquaintances Killswitch Engage on selected shows.
To showcase news songs off of “Say Hello To Tragedy”, Caliban will play at several festivals this summer and are confirmed to headline the Beastfest European tour 2009 with Century Media labelmates Suicide Silence and Maroon as well as Emmure and After The Burial in October/November 2009. The band also has plans to head over to North America again in Septmeber/October – stay tuned for details.

Darkest Hour's crushing new album, “The Eternal Return”, debuted at #104 this week on the Billboard Top 200 Chart and landed at the #1 position on the Heatseekers chart as well as #16 on the Independent chart! “The Eternal Return” scored the band's highest chart position of their career and moved over 4800 units in its first week. The band's previous release, 2007's “Deliver Us”, reached #110.
Guitarist Mike Schleibaum commented on the album's chart position: "We really appreciate everyone that went out and bought our new CD the first week it was released. This is the highest we've ever charted on Billboard! We are also really excited about all of the contest winners. Legendary progressive metal masters Dream Theater's latest album, “Black Clouds & Silver Linings” has taken the band to new heights. The album debuted at #6 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart, with first week sales totaling 40,285. Both numbers mark the highest ever first week figures for the band, who are enjoying the greatest success of their 25 year career. 12% of the week's sales were digital, ranking “Black Clouds & Silver Linings” at #21 on the Digital Albums chart.
Drummer Mike Portnoy had this to say, "This is truly amazing. After almost 25 years together, Dream Theater is still growing and progressing and doing bigger and better than ever. I can't think of many bands that can claim that. We are truly thankful to have this incredible support from fans who believe in the band as a musical force."
Such a monumental debut places Dream Theater, a band known for lengthy epics and the true "album" format, in the cozy Top 10 company of Jonas Brothers, Black Eyed Peas and Regina Spektor, a truly remarkable feat. Portnoy continues, "An album with four songs over 12 minutes in the US Top 10? Hell must've frozen over! This is one small leap for Dream Theater, and one giant leap for music in general."
“Black Clouds & Silver Linings” is the band's tenth studio album and follow up to the band's 2007 Roadrunner Records debut, “Systematic Chaos”. In addition to the standard version CD, the album is also available on vinyl LP, as well as a three-disc Special Edition CD that includes the full album, a CD of instrumental mixes of the album and a CD of six cover songs. A limited deluxe collector's edition boxed set is also available. "This is as smart and well played as metal and hard rock gets, an album just humming with live possibilities and headphone trips waiting to happen," wrote Dennis Cook in is 6/23/2009 review at Jambase.com, while Shawn S. Lealos said in his 6/16/09 review at 411Mania.com: "Dream Theater has created their masterpiece."
Dream Theater is currently breaking records in Europe, playing to festival crowds of over 80,000 adoring fans. The band made their debut appearance in Israel last month, rocking a crowd 10,000 strong to their knees. The band's own Progressive Nation tour returns stateside on July 24 in Miami, and will feature Dream Theater as headliner, Zappa Plays Zappa, Bigelf and Scale The Summit. The tour-which marks the second incarnation of Progressive Nation--wraps on August 29th in Los Angeles.

Acclaimed drummer, Tim Yeung, of Divine Heresy will rejoin his old bandmates in Vital Remains for two special shows this weekend. Yeung further comments: "Hey everyone, I am extremely excited to announce that I have rejoined my old cohort in crime, Tony Lazaro (guitars), in Vital Remains for a few special holiday weekend shows. I am stoked to get back behind the kit with these guys to perform some of the most intense songs ever. The definition of extreme can be interpreted in many ways. Vital Remains, however, takes its meaning to a whole new level, whether it be through using their instruments as weapons for mass annihilation or through unrelenting, truthful and overly blasphemous lyrics displaying their hatred of religion and all that it stands for. Very few extreme metal bands stand the test of time and are able to reinvent their musical styles despite undergoing many lineup changes and Vital Remains are definitely one of these chosen few.

'21st Century Breakdown', the latest studio album from Reprise Records’ Green Day, has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album was released by Reprise Records on May 15th, 2009, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, as well as on the Rock, Active Rock, and Alternative charts. '21st Century Breakdown', which Rolling Stone has called “a rock opera in which the rock always comes first,” also topped the charts in 24 countries including the UK, Canada, and Japan.
'21st Century Breakdown' is the Bay Area, CA, punk-rock band’s ninth gold album in the U.S. including 1992’s 'Kerplunk', 1994’s 'Dookie', 1995’s 'Insomniac', 1997’s 'Nimrod', 2000’s 'Warning', 2004’s 'American Idiot', as well as two compilation albums: 1991’s '1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours' and 2001’s 'International Superhits!' Technical metal pioneers Atheist will see the release of a special 'Unquestionable Presence: Live At Wacken' 2xCD set this summer.
'Unquestionable Presence: Live At Wacken' is the complete live set from the band’s 2006 reunion gig at Wacken Open Air Festival recorded in front of 60,000 fans. The band is currently streaming the set’s opening track, “Unquestionable Presence”, online now via their MySpace page.
The second disc in the set is a collection of essential Atheist tracks as hand-picked by the band. The two are packaged together complete with a 24-page booklet that contains photos and extensive liner notes from the band detailing the Wacken experience and why they chose the selected tracks. 'Unquestionable Presence: Live At Wacken' will see its North American release on July 21st, July 27th internationally and is available for pre-order here.
Atheist have also announced a number of US and European dates for this summer, including a July tour with The Faceless, Psyopus, The Agonist and Gnostic. The band will also be performing as part of the Brutal Assault, Paranoid, Jalometalli Metal Music, Harvesting Hell Open Air festivals and more.
