| BIOGRAPHY |
Parkway Drive is a rural road located in the Australian countryside. This sparse lane dotted with spare houses and spitting distance from the crystal blue waters of Byron Bay has something dark bubbling away, unbeknownst to most a quintet of young men have crafted the sound of Australian angst, charged with melodic guitar flourishes that dip into punishing breakdowns, double kick, kung-fu drumming, thick rhythms and technical precision that delve across the genres of metal, hardcore and death. Brought about with the intention of playing a type of music that blends the intricate riffs and melodies of metal, with the conviction, emotion and breakdowns of hardcore, in the summer of 2003 Parkway Drive the band, was born.
The band has exploded through their homeland with their debut full-length, Killing With A Smile and seeks to conquer foreign shores this year. The album produced by Adam Dutkiewicz (of Killswitch Engage) had the band fly to Massachusetts last year for an intense two week recording period of twelve hours a day. The resulting album is a large and devastating aural evisceration through eleven tracks, even reflecting down to the artwork that shows a man bleeding out into the street. With a massive sound that encompasses Swe-death riffs, punishing breakdowns, thick rhythms, mayhem inducing blastbeats and a technical precision that borders on frightening, Parkway Drive transcend cliché labels like metal core with ease.
Killing With A Smile entered the Australian Independent charts as the # 2 release on and went on to be Australia’s highest selling extreme music release to date. The combined success of the album and the band’s amazing live performances saw them opening up for every notable American artist on tour in Australia including Bleeding Through, Alexisonfire, Shadows Fall, Every Time I Die, As I Lay Dying, Hatebreed and Evergreen Terrace as well as appearing at the Gold Coast Big Day Out festival. Parkway Drive are the standard-bearers for Australia’s new wave of extreme music and have led the charge of building the Australian hardcore scene into what it is today.
