Named after a drug addled criminal from Mark Z. Danielewski's cult book, House Of Leaves. Johnny Truant are as extreme as they are experimental. Their 3-track demo (recorded under the name Severance) was enough to secure a deal with Undergroove Recordings (Charger, Matter, 3 Stages Of Pain) and the Brighton based quartet spent the Spring of 2002 working on their debut album, The Repercussions Of A Badly Planned Suicide. Recorded at Philia Studios, Oxon, UK, with Dave Chang (Stampin' Ground, earthtone9, Charger), the album has been mixed by acclaimed producer Joe Gibb (Leftfield, Jane's Addiction, even Madonna!) at Mighty Atom Studios, Swansea, Wales. Aaron Turner (Isis/ Old Man Gloom/ Hydra Head Records) created the albums artwork in Boston, USA. Turner, of course, is known for his covers for cutting edge bands like Cave In, Botch and Isis.Citing everything from the US underground noisecore scene to classic rock as an influence, Johnny Truant's music is suitably intense and yet jam-packed with groove and melody which is demonstrated perfectly in their debut release. Just check out tracks like 'I Am The Primitologist Mr Robert Sapolsky' (about evolution); 'Seven Days At Knifepoint' (about a close friend who was stabbed); 'Consider Us Dead' which features guest vocals from Charger's Tim Machin and the nine minute instrumental 'Puparia'. Johnny Truant have already notched up gigs with label mates Charger, Matter as well as Raging Speedhorn, Medulla Nocte, Labrat, Mahumodo and Sikth and intend to cause riots wherever they go.They're ready to dance ... are you?
