St. Catherines, Ontario’s, ALEXISONFIRE construct an impressive blend of turbulent and explosive dynamics with intricate guitar melodies and beautiful singing. Formed in late 2001 as the result of a three band break up five friends; George Pettit (vocals), Wade MacNeil (guitar/vocals), Chris Steele (bass), Jesse Ingelevics (drums) and Dallas Green (guitar/vocals) came together to create something that has become greater than the sum of its parts.
From the outset, Alexisonfire’s work ethic has been nothing but exhaustive. Within three months of their conception the band had played their first show and recorded a three-song demo. Alexisonfire took to the road and it wasn’t long before Southern Ontario and up state New York picked up on their infectious sound as well as their cathartic live performance. At shows one can witness guitars flying violently through the air, bodies colliding and a sea of kids raising their fists and crowd surfing to get a hold of the mic. Although it was never meant to be more than a demo Alexisonfire’s first recording sold over a thousand
copies. Said demo managed to gain the attention of Distort Entertainment and EMI music publishing who signed the band immediately.
Alexisonfire continued to write material at a blistering pace and released a self-titled album on Distort Entertainment. The album was met with critical acclaim and eventually broke the Canadian Top 200 Soundscan chart. Never content to sit idle the band toured relentlessly in Canada and up state New York. Alexisonfire create a very exciting musical juxtaposition by combining ear stabbing screams, complex guitar work and ethereal vocals with a chaotic and sometimes riot-inspiring live experience.
Their sound is a direct collaboration of personal influences based on the love of music and the desire to play. This open-minded approach has allowed them to play with a variety of diverse bands such as The Misfits, From Autumn To Ashes, Gwar, Hopesfall, Small Brown Bike, Billy Talent, This Day Forward, Thrice and appear on the 2002 Warped Tour.
