Eyes Set To Kill
Reach
[Breaksilence]

With an perplexing barrage of young bands having a go at the alternative scene, a genre that is essentially nothing like it was in the late 80’s through the nineties – call it emo and screamo in its contemporary form – how many really make a lasting impression beyond this trend? Arguably, not too damn many.  There is however a unit out of Arizona that has, so far, demonstrated in their music that evolving is certainly the goal.  Eyes Set to Kill is essentially a female-fronted quintet that actually ‘made it’ based on internet self-promotion, thus landing themselves a deal on Breaksilence Records – interestingly enough, it’s a new subsidiary of primarily underground hip hop/metal/punk label Suburban Noize Records.  What ESTK does so well comes down to basically just eliminating overkill on influences and diverting from the trendy pack. The band plays out what seems to come truly from within. Dual vocals complement by balancing melody and aggression, the lyrics are personal but never whiny, and the level of musicianship far exceed their young age.

Bottom Line: Taken as a whole, the twelve tracks that comprise Reach provide a singular, great musical symmetry between penetrating beauty and ferocious beast.
