This could very well be considered "epic" for a hardcore album, clocking in at just over 40 minutes, considering most hardcore albums typically just make the half hour mark. This Is Hell have pumped out 13 tracks of straight up, unbrldled hardcore. Nothing more, nothing less.
You won't find any current trends making their way onto this record. There are no death grunts, or chugging breakdowns. No wicked leads, or overly distorted guitars. No melodic breaks, and no soaring clean vocals. This record is not about the trends. It's straight up raw hardcore aggression that's true to the spirit of what genuine hardcore was all about.
This is the hardcore that carries that punk attitude with it. Shouted gang choruses, barely distorted guitars, and the almost non-stop 2/4 drumming that always separated hardcore from the metal. This is hardcore, the way it should be done. Period! |

Bottom Line: In this current scene, where everything is being thrown together and bastardized with a "core" suffix, it's become increasingly harder to find a genuine record of any kind. From balls out thrash, to grinding death, to raw roots hardcore, it's all been lost to some degree in the chaos that has created the above mentioned "core" sub-genres.
There used to be two kinds of core......Hardcore, and Grindcore. That was it. Now, it's hard enough to keep up with exactly what kind of "core" you're listening to from one week to the next. But this is where it ends. With bands like This Is Hell, that are willing to buck trends and keep it true, we can eventually shut down the one too many sub-genres that these trendy "core" kids have decided to create. |
