Wow....talk about a band that continues to make no bones about sounding exactly like the band that has influenced them over any other. Demiricous come off as Slayer jr. on their debut album, and are apparently more than happy to continue down that path on their sophomore album 'Two'.
They've got the Slayer sound nailed down, from the crappy Tom Araya-esque vocal yells, to the pathetic attempts at actual guitar leads, which are signature to Kerry King. Even the drumming is in line with that of Dave Lombardo, or at least, the way Dave plays with Slayer. (Those who know better know that Dave Lombardo is actually a rather accomplished drummer, but he only showcases his real skills in his projects outside of Slayer.) The only link to Jeff Hanneman is in the way Demiricous maintains the rhythms in each song, as Jeff is ten times better at leads than Kerry could ever hope to be.
With all the Slayer references, one might begin to wonder who's record this review is actually for. It's bad enough to have one terrible band that has been overrated for 25 years now.......we definitely didn't need a replica. |

Bottom Line: Demiricous may as well have named their band after one of the many many Slayer songs, as they would have had plenty to choose from. With the extreme emulation of Slayer's sound, it would have been entirely more fitting for them to just have settled for cover band status.
This record is for fans of anything that sounds similar to Slayer, however, diehard Slayer fans may not care for this, as they'll easily see Demiricous for what they are......
This is most definitely plagiarism at it's finest. |
