Ferret Records has finally managed to sign a band that you would be more likely to find amongts the current roster of Victory artists. That band happens to be LoveHateHero, who's latest album, 'White Lies', is a surprising slab of semi-technical guitar driven screamo. And while it may not impress the metal crowd despite the occassional use of death growls, off time signatures, or lead guitar work, it's sure to make at least a few guitarists give it at the very least a second listen.

Vocally, Pierrick Berube comes closer to the likes of Chris Carrabba than anything that could even remotely be considered 'metal', excepting 80's hair metal, that is. The  backing screams add just the tiniest bit of aggression to a completely pop oriented sound that fits directly in line with the likes of Hawthorne Heights.

Musically, this album is all over the place, from sounding like both Protest The Hero and Hawthorne Heights respectively, to coming off sounding like Atreyu and even Story Of The Year at other times. The lead guitar work courtesy of newcomer Kevin Gruft, is simply stellar. Overtly metallic leads are thrown in all over this album on top of some decent chugging riffs here and there, and it's obvious early on that Kevin is quite an accomplished guitarist. If not for the guitarwork, this album would be nothing more than another generic screamo album with sissified sing-song vocals. Overall, this album is quite possibly the most pop oriented, catchy album we're likely to hear coming from the Ferret label.....this year.

Bottom Line: The powers that be in the corporate music world couldn't possibly create a more poppy, radio friendly band. Not even with shows like 'Rockstar Supernova' could a band this catchy be created. LoveHateHero has everything it takes to be HUGE on radio and MTV. Even better than that, they actually have talent, not to mention the ability to write their OWN songs (as opposed to having someone write songs for them). It's quite surprising that LoveHateHero wasn't snatched up by a major label looking to cash in on the current popularity of screamo/emo. Then again, if the right A&R person is on the prowl, it may not be too long before they find themselves signed to one.
