The Lordz debut album 'The Brooklyn Way' is an amalgam of many different styles of music, all thrown together with a surprisingly cohesive, rather enjoyable outcome. There are many bands that try to incorporate as many different styles of music as possible while trying to make a completely cohesive record, and fail miserably. The exact oppostite can be said for The Lordz.
This album has that "Feel Good" party groove going on, but then with one of the two being a DJ, it's not a big surprise. At times, this record brings to mind the horrible sounds of Pop/Hip Hop/Nu Metal failures Crazytown, only this record is everything their records never were. And of course, a few guest appearances can't hurt, as this album boasts guest appearances by modern punk legend Tim Amstrong (ex-Operation Ivy/Rancid) as well as Everlast, amongst others. The record also includes a cover of Jim Carroll's "People Who Died".

Bottom Line: The overall feeling of this record is somewhat of a throwback to late 70's/early 80's era styles, with a slightly modern twist to it all. 'The Brooklyn Way' is a great debut abum, with lyrical content that is based on living life and growing up on the mean streets of Brooklyn, all the while looking at things from a positive perspective. This record is definitely NOT for the average metal enthusiast, as there is literally nothing 'metal' about this record. This will however, appeal to the more adventurous types, who's love of music reaches far beyond the confines of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. |
