Re:Ignition's debut album, 'Empty Heart, Loaded Gun', is simply put, one of the best rock records to come out in years! There isn't a single track on this album that's lacking. It simply delivers. And if it hadn't been put out there from the gate, you'd quite likely never have a clue that there are members of Skinlab in Re:Ignition.
This album has no real similarities to Skinlab, and of course, it shouldn't. But it does tend to happen like that most times, when members of any given band get involved in another project. It will sound like their main band, with slight differences. Fortunately, with Re:Ignition, that's not the case at all. And that's not to say that coming off sounding like Skinlab would be a bad thing. But it's great to see that Steev and Snake can go off and do something like this and not sound like just another version of their main band.
Songs like "Short Memory" and "Spinning In Circles" have tons of energy, and a super solid driving rhythm that doesn't quit. Other songs like "By A Thread" show that they can slow things down a little bit without losing the energy that propels this album from start to finish.
The absolute best thing about Re:Ignition is vocalist Dave Moore. This guy is the best kept secret in rock music right now. For those of you that are all over Chris Cornell, and anything associated with classic Soundgarden, take a listen to Re:Ignition. Rock music hasn't sounded this solid since Soundgarden put out 'Badmotorfinger', and Chris Cornell did Temple of the Dog.
Dave Moore's vocal range and ability are simply amazing, as he can go from a gritty rock style, to amazing cleans that haven't been done since the aformentioned albums were put out. And the fact that there are a few screams thrown in here and there are a nice addition, as it's relatively unheard of for any straightforward rock band to throw some solid screams into the mix. And with the bulk of the albums lyrical content based on harsh life experiences and bad relationships, the title 'Empty Heart, Loaded Gun' couldn't be more fitting.
