Rob Crow is known for his role in several “fun metal” bands such as Goblin Cock and Heavy Vegetable. But in Living Well, Rob Crow plays in a style that is more that of Pinback’s, that is, a very light yet not uninteresting indie pop (rock?). The songs are short and do not follow a complex structure or progression. Easy to listen, Rob Crow’s songs are quite soothing. It reminds me of Caroline, but without the electronic stuff. The music is quite basic. However, it might hold your attention for the musical technique is obviously incontestable. Some tracks are more rock or even sludge rock tracks, but they do retain this non-complex aspect of the music. Rob Crow’s voice is quite beautiful, and, as I said, soothing. The lyrics are personal, it’s all about Rob’s own life. The album art is personal as well. The cover shows Rob Crow on his front porch, holding a mug, while the inside pictures show Rob’s family.

Bottom Line:

Rob Crow’s Living well is a nice album. Nice, but too poppy, this album remains banal, and this means an album that’s not going to stay in your mind for long.
