'War of Aggression' is A Perfect Murder's second attempt at nailing down the classic Pantera sound. And once again, they've FAILED miserably. Kevin Randel's vocals are seriously lacking in every way. His screams aren't anywhere near as aggressive as Phil's were back in the day. His voice cracks Way too much, and it's extremely noticeable too, which is a bad thing.
His attempt at singing clean during the band's attempt at a "serious" ballad, is also rather horrible. He sounds like a cross between a BAD rendition of Zakk Wylde, and the current Phil Anselmo. And that's pretty bad considering Zakk went downhill ever since he started imitating Ozzy, and Phil can't really sing anymore either.
As for Carl Bouchard, he needs to focus and realize that he's NOT Dimebag, nor will he ever be Dimebag. His guitar skill is nowhere near that of Dime, and no matter how hard he tries, he'll never be anything more than a third rate imitator. And his weak guitar tone is annoying as hell too. Sounds more like a bad version of old Metallica than the crushing sound of Pantera. |

Bottom Line: To correct the huge mistake....A Perfect Murder needs to give the Phil Anselmo obssessed Randel the BOOT, and get former vocalist Frank back in there so they can get back to the more thrash oriented hardcore sound they had going on their Victory records debut, 'Unbroken'. At least back then, there was a shred of originality in their sound. Until then, expect to hear more third rate rehashed Pantera riffing.......with the horrible vocals included. |
