LOS ANGELES - Digital Playground's blockbuster sequel Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge will screen Wednesday night at the Ackerman Ballroom on the campus of the University of California - Los Angeles.
Sponsored by UCLA's Campus Events Commission, the screening will be followed by a Q&A panel discussion with director Joone, co-producer Samantha Lewis, actor Evan Stone, and other stars of the movie to be announced.
“We wanted to spark this dialogue of how the adult film industry, mainstream media, and regular films are becoming so (similar)...There’s a blurring of that line," campus events commissioner and fourth-year psychology student Penson Liu told the UCLA Daily Bruin.
The original Pirates drew a reported 3,000 students to a screening at Carnegie-Mellon University in 2005. According to Digital Playground director of marketing Adella Curry, this week's event at UCLA is part of a planned tour that will bring Pirates II to 30 major colleges and universities nationwide.
"The response to our screening of the first Pirates at Carnegie-Mellon prompted me to include universities in my Pirates II marketing plan," Digital Playground's Adella told AVN. "Digital Playground is excited to share the movie with UCLA staff and students."
The screening will begin at 8 p.m., with discussion schduled to follow at approximately 10:15.
Digital Playground premiered Pirates II in September at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. Hailed as the most expensive adult production in history, the movie is nominated for an unprecedented 30 AVN Awards including Best Video Feature, Best Director for Joone, Best Actress for Jesse Jane, and Best Actor for Stone.

NEW YORK - The editors of Rolling Stone have named AVN Female Performer of the Year Sasha Grey to the magazine's 2008 Hot List.
The list of the year's trendiest music, movies, fads and fashions places Grey in the company of Twilight actor Robert Pattison, "Gossip Girl" Leighton Meester, and the sleeping pill Ambien.
"With her sad eyes, waifish body and willingness to push the boundaries of porn, Grey quickly became the toast of the San Fernando Valley," wrote Rolling Stone scribe Claire Hoffman. "Grey's stardom is starting to titillate people in legitimate Hollywood. Naturally, she likes that feeling very much."
Grey made mainstream news this year when Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh cast her as the lead in his low-budget indie feature The Girlfriend Experience.
"The simple fact that I was selected to be in Rolling Stone's Hot Issue this year is an honor in itself; they actually scouted me out before the news broke about my role in The Girlfriend Experience," Grey told AVN. "For me, that's the icing on the cake!"
The list is available in the current issue of Rolling Stone and online at RollingStone.com.

The 2009 AVN Award nominations are in, and honestly there's not a whole lot of surprises. PIRATES 2 (Digital Playground), FALLEN (WICKED), THE WICKED (WICKED), and THIS AIN'T THE MUNSTERS (HUSTLER) were pretty much nominated for everything short of BEST INTERRACIAL SERIES.
Also a strong showing from ZT's ROLLERDOLLZ, Vivid's THE CHAUFFEUR'S DAUGHTER (which I was raving about earlier this year), and Metro's TEXAS VIBRATOR MASSACRE.
Also, props to our man on the inside (pun intended), Tommy Gunn, who was nominated for a staggering 6 awards including Best Actor, and best POV scene for his directorial debut, Tommy Gunn's POV. One ridiculous travesty is that Gabriella Fox isn't nominated for Best New Starlet (although her GABRIELLA FOX SEXY HOT did receive a nod for best HIGH END ALL SEX RELEASE.)

The Montreal Assault Tour, which features headliners Despised Icon, will hit the U.S. this coming February. Support on the bill will come from fellow Canadians Beneath The Massacre, Neuraxis, and The Plasmarifle, along with U.S. deathcore upstarts Carnifex. Despised Icon has posted the following update regarding the upcoming tour on their Myspace page:
"Oh yeah! We'll finally be back in the US in February with our brothers in Beneath The Massacre, Neuraxis and The Plasmarifle! We all grew up around Montreal, went to the same shows when we were younger and even shared bands in the past so this tour is gonna be killer! Since this a US tour, we decided to invite our buddies in Carnifex along for the ride. We just completed a European tour with those dudes, had an awesome time and can't wait to hang out some more!
This will be our 15th and last tour in support of 'The Ills Of Modern Man' and our first time headlining the US. Finally, we’ll be able to play a long ass set, covering all 3 DI records. You can also expect to hear a new song or two on there. Instead of saying my usual “we’re stoked for tour” comment, I’d like to take a few extra seconds to thank all our American fans for supporting us throughout the years. We’ve been extensively touring your country for close to 4 years already and none of this would have been possible without your help and encouragement. See you guys in February!"

Hate Eternal have issued the following update regarding the JFAC tour:
"Hate Eternal have been forced to drop off the ongoing Job For a Cowboy North American tour due an infection in Erik Rutan's hand and complications in his kidney. Erik was admitted to an Iowa City hospital on the early morning of Nov. 23rd and has remained under doctor's supervision since. The infection has caused concern for the doctors, but the major concern has been Erik's kidney.
Erik will not be able to continue the tour, but he is expected to make a full recovery. He is expected to be released sometime next week and then will seek further treatment at home in Florida.
Hate Eternal would like thank to everyone on the tour for their understanding of the situation. Hate Eternal would also like to thank all the fans who have expressed concern for Erik's health."
