In This Moment Vocalist Lands Metal Edge Cover |
|
There is no doubt that Maria Brink, vocalist of In This Moment, is quickly becoming one of hard rock’s most identifiable frontwomen and this is further proven as she is featured on the cover of Metal Edge magazine’s Jan/Feb issue. The eye-popping cover perfectly encompasses the new album’s dreamland concept and features Brink looking as striking as ever. This cover also marks Brink’s third national cover this year with the others being the prestigious publications Inked and Revolver. “We're very excited about this issue, for a number of reasons,” says Metal Edge Editor-in-Chief Phil Freeman. “In This Moment’s new album is a giant leap forward for them, and we feel confident that they're only getting bigger - so they deserve the cover. More importantly for our readers, Adrien Begrand's story incorporates the thoughts and feelings of all the bandmembers and really helps define where the group is going, while filling new listeners in on where they've come from. Maria and the guys are clear-eyed about what it took to get them to this point, and I think a lot of Metal Edge readers, especially those in struggling bands, can relate to their tenacity and determination.”
The cover was painted by Texas-based artist Austin Swinburn, based on very sketchy notes from Freeman. “I basically wanted to explore the Alice in Wonderland theme of the band's new album, but give it a dark, weird edge, and Austin did a terrific job,” he says.
The photos of Maria and the other band members were shot by veteran L.A. rock photographer Glen La Ferman. “He was recommended to me by Lonn Friend, former editor of RIP magazine; I saw his use of lighting and makeup in some demo shots he sent over, and was blown away,” says Freeman. An exclusive gallery of outtakes from the photo shoot can be seen at www.metaledgemag.com/inthismoment.
