BATMAN BEYOND has been one of those shows that I have had an "on and off again" relationship with for some time now. Of course by "on and off again" I mean I watched it a few times and it never really stuck. Though with that said, I should probably have prefaced the prior statement with the fact that I am 27, which would have made me 19 when this series originally premiered. To some it may seem overly sad that I know anything of this show age provided, and the others I am "lame" for letting societal norms dictate my viewing habits. Neither could be further from the truth in all actual.
A.) I have never and will never begin to believe in the least that animation is for children or those of "lesser intelligence", pretty much the only television I watch is animated beyond of course HEROES, WEEDS, DEXTER, HOUSE, THE SOUP... ok I digress, but you get my point... right???
B.) Society did not dictate the fact I did not maintain viewership of this show, alcohol did. I was 19 in a band in LA and trying to get laid... for some reason BATMAN BEYOND just didn't fit into the calculations.
Anyways, all that pointlessly said I am not what one could call a fan of BATMAN BEYOND. Though does one need to be a "fan" to enjoy BATMAN BEYOND?
Nnnooottt rreealllyy... I don't think?
The reason I say this, is that I did purchase BATMAN BEYOND SEASON ONE when it was originally released on DVD as I had remembered liking the show and wanted to check it out again (as well I was at BEST BUY and wanted to burn a hole in my pocket!). Yet when BATMAN BEYOND SEASON TWO was released this past fall, I paid it no mind (and no money). Not that I didn't like the season one DVD set, I watched it regularly. It just wasn't high on my priority list so it slid on by. Come couple months ago (I told y'all I was behind!) BATMAN BEYOND SEASON THREE was released on DVD, and I have to say even without having the foggiest as to what takes place in season two, BATMAN BEYOND SEASON THREE does a good job of not holding that against you.
For those not in the know BATMAN BEYOND takes place 20 years in the future (well 20yrs from 1999, at least) in a Gotham City where the original caped crusader (is that supposed to be capitalized like a proper noun???) Bruce Wayne (that's definitely a proper noun!) has retired and a new and more advanced BATMAN protects the streets, a BATMAN "BEYOND" the original BATMAN if you will.
