If there is anyone left on the planet that has not yet run to their nearest DVD retailer to pick up a copy of the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST you can rest assured with the holiday season in full swing as it is, those few soon I am sure will. Phenomenon seems like an understatement when talking of this film and franchise, as who would ever to think that a film about a Disneyland(world???) theme park ride could ever take off into such a huge theatrical film let alone three. Well with two of the three mentioned films out and at hand, it is fairly safe to assume the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN will go down as the all time money making them park ride to major motion picture. That being said, as well my coin in the PIRATES purse as you know I must always splurge and picked up the 2-DISC SPECIAL EDITION complete with a shiny O-card to let me know "this is the ultimate DVD until the ultimate DVD we release prior to the third film in May."
I saw this movie originally when it was in theaters, and was surprised and how entertaining yet another PIRATE movie could. YES, I was a pessimist. I did not believe PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: CURSE OF THE BLAK PEARL could be anything but an overly autistic marketing ploy aimed at BLUE COLLAR COMEDY fans (sorry, I just don't get it, but you can feel free to go "GET'ER DONE" all you like... just not with your sister!!!). Alas I was wrong and then wrong again when it came to the aforementioned films sequel. Though I can say the film does feel a bit long, which is better worn on DVD as one can easily pause to alleviate any bladder pressure (or make love to their wife while imagining she is KEIRA KNIGHTLEY... What??? Who said that??? H-H-Honestly Honey I didn't type that, I would never think of another women when I am with you... I'll save that for when I am with your friends... KIDDING!!!!) and then return without missing a frame.

Features: The discs do amount with extras and bonus features clocking in at over 5 hours of commentaries, behind the scenes, bloopers, photo diaries and much more. I don't think anyone who picked up this set will truly ever need more information on this particular film than what is supplied these two discs

Bottom Line: All in all the film still amounts to the same fun on DVD as it did in the theaters (though is it just me or did DAVEY JONES seem a little more translucent on DVD???) and is definitely deserving of it's blockbuster status. Though as a concerned skeptic I am in hopes the length difference between POTC 1 and POTC 2 is not a forward indication of the exceeding time limits of the third (seriously Mr. VERBINSKI two hours of PIRATES is plenty!!!! Oh yeah, and where the hell is the all pegged leg character??? That's right! I wanna see arm pegs, leg pegs, toe pegs, finger pegs, genital pegs... scratch that finger pegs will suffice, please take note sir!!!)
I am not going to tell you to buy this because you already did! |
